Summer Travel Baseball Try-Outs are Scheduled for 17 May at 5pm! See below email for more information.

The weather might not feel like summer baseball but believe it or not it's right around the corner!

Hingham Little League (“HLL”) invites baseball players ages 8 through 12 who have participated in the 2019 spring HLL season to try-out for our summer travel baseball program. Summer travel baseball is a rewarding and challenging experience for HLL players. HLL takes great pride in fielding high quality teams at all age and skill levels and seeks to build upon prior years’ great successes in representing our town in regional and tournament competition.

Teams are selected in such a manner as to allow HLL to compete at a high level within the Little League Tournament, Sandwich Tournament and regional competition. HLL's goal is to field two summer travel teams at the 11U, 10U, and 9U age groups, a “Red” team and “White” team and a “Red” team for the 12U and 8U age groups.

When considering if travel baseball is right for your player and your family, please note that players must commit to the entire season and be available for a majority of games and tournaments. The Red team is a significant time commitment. The summer travel season begins the third week of June and typically ends the first week of August. Regular season games are played during the week with practices on other days and they also participate in one or two weekend tournaments including the Sandwich tournament (see more information posted here). The White team is less of a commitment whereby regular season games and practices are only on weekdays. However, HLL is giving each White coach the option to play in weekend tournaments if enough players are available. HLL pay for all tournament registration fees for every summer travel team.

Below is a description of each team and what leagues and tournaments they are expected to participate in as well as the upcoming tryout schedule:

10U, 11U, and 12U Teams:

The 10U-Red, 11U-Red, 12U-Red teams compete in the Williamsport Tournament and the Suburban Youth Baseball League (“SYBL”).

The 12U-Red team competes for the District Championship and, if successful, has the opportunity to continue competition forward with the Sectional Championship, State Championship, Regional Championship, and ultimately, the Little League World Series Championship. The 10U-Red and 11U-Red teams compete up to the State Championship level with an option to compete in the New England Regional Tournament.

10U-Red & White, 11-U Red & White and 12U Red teams compete in the SYBL league which is a 10-game season that typically plays at least two weekday games a week. There are only 5 regular season travel games to nearby towns such as Norwell, Braintree, Scituate, Cohasset and Milton. The remaining 5 games are played in Hingham. At the conclusion of the SYBL regular season there are playoffs that last approximately one week depending on how successful the team is.

In addition to the Williamsport Tournament and SYBL League (as well as additional tournaments at the team’s discretion), the 10U-Red, 11U-Red and 12U- Red teams are scheduled to play in the Sandwich Tournament on the following dates.

10U – July 11-14

11U – July 18-21

12U – July 25-28

The 10U-White and 11U-White teams do not compete in the Williamsport Tournament; they only compete in the SYBL League. The 10U-White and 11U-White team coaches have the option to play in a weekend tournament if enough players are available.

 9U Team – Red & White

The 9U-Red & 9U-White Team competes in the SYBL League which consists of 10 Regular Season games that typically plays at least two weekday games per week.

The 9U-Red Team will participate in 2-3 weekend tournaments, including a Braintree Tournament which is typically the 3rd weekend in June, the Sandwich Tournament (July 5-7) and an additional tournament at the end of July.

The 9U-White Team, which will only compete in the SYBL League, will not play or practice on weekends unless the coach has enough interest to play in a weekend tournament.

8U Team (“Friendship League”)

Friendship League is the introduction to travel baseball. The league is made up of over 70 teams from more than 50 towns in eastern Massachusetts. The players learn the rules of the game with players pitching, umpires calling balls and strikes, outs recorded and wins and loses determined.

The Friendship League season goes from late June to the last week of July with playoffs being completed by the first week of August. There are 8 regular season games, 4 of which are home games played in Hingham and 4 are travel games played in towns such as Norwell, Scituate, Milton, Quincy, and Braintree. All games are played during the week.

8U Team will typically play in one or two local weekend tournaments (Braintree or Whitman Hanson) which will be selected by the coach.
